Consul of Japan Speaks to Florida Realtors in Orlando

The Florida Realtors winter business meetings continued today. I started by attending the Professional Development Committee meeting and then the Legal Update with lots of great infomation about the latest rules and legislation on various subjects including copright, MLS of choice, and disclosure issues.

The highlight of today for me was the Global Business Committee that I am a member of. International real estate is my passion and I will not miss an opportunity to learn more about doing business with people from other countries.

Today, the Honorable Ken Okaniwa, Consulate General of Japan, was addressing the Global Business Committee members with a presentation about investing in Japan.

Japan has a robust economy and a great infrastructure, they are also innovative and have a sophisticative market. For example, the Nobel price has been awarded to Japanese persons 25 times mostly for achievements in mathematics and the sciences.

Why to invest in Japan

Many American companies have facilities in Japan but there are also many Japanese companies doing business in the USA including Florida. Only second to Germany, Japan is the second largest foreign investor in Florida with 7.73 Billion Dollars. With nearly 200 companies, Japanese companies have created many jobs in the state.

Global businss would not be complete without a cultural or traditional aspect. Every member of the Global Business Committee received a traditional Origami crane symbolizing health, happiness, and peace. I thought this was a beautiful gesture and a nice reminder of this informative presentation.

Silvia, what a great speaker and event. This reminded me of about 15 years ago when the Japanese Prime Minister was giving a similar speech in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and it was not only inspirational but very beneficial too. Endre

That would be a presentation I would have liked to hear. I do international business so it would be a great benefit to have someone of his stature at a meeting.

First of all, the origami crane gift is a lovely gesture. Your passion for International Real Estate and your awareness of the need to learn and keep up-to-date with the latest trends will ensure your status as the Realtor to hire in that niche.

This event sounds like a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and your horizon in International Real Estate, Silvia.

Silvia,

Like Endre Barath, Jr. I remember when the Japanese were wild about Beverly Hills and were buying like crazy.  I loved the Japanese style of aethetics and their graciousness of the gift of the crane.  A

Roy Kelley you never know when you can use things that you've learned at some time or another.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD thank you, I appreciate that. The Origami was nice and unexpected. It always amazes me how a piece of paper can transform into a little piece of art.

Myrl Jeffcoat thank you, I sure learned information I didn't know before.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty very true, for the most part, we don't even think about investment in another country, this helps training the mind to think about other opportunities.

Debbie Reynolds very true, there are many components that have to be considered for any investment not only internationally.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel thank you, I thought it was a thoughtful gesture and appreciated the meaning behind it.

George Souto I wasn't aware of many of the things that were presented. It makes me want to visit the country one of these days.

HI Silvia... I understand your interest in the international business community in your area... it's huge here in Charlotte, as well... and I try to stay as current as possible myself.

It sounds like you had a couple of day of great meetings. I always attend our state's legal update when I go to the state convention. It's one of my favorite classes. The state association attorney always teaches it, and he's very entertaining.

Hi Silvia Dukes PA, Broker Associate, CRS, CIPS, SRES - I would have enjoyed listening to your speaker too! I'll be leaving for Winter Meetings soon and I am looking forward to more learning and listening to a great speaker too.

Your passion for the Real Estate Industry, particularly to the Global Business Committee is so valuable and specific. The intricacies involved in marketing real estate to others from different countries is very impressive and so important. CIPS is a designation that few can achieve. I truly admire you and how far you have gone in Real Estate.

Yolanda Cordova-Gilbert I too was surprised to see these numbers!

Roy Kelley thank you and you as well!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® Origami is certainly an art form!

Nina Hollander I love working with international customers, I've been doing it right from the beginning, it's rewarding in so many ways.

Debbie Laity yes, the legal update is done by our state association attorneys as well. Good information!

Patricia Feager thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words. Although real estate in general is always interesting, global real estate is a specialty that adds a few components such as cultural differences, currency and tax considerations just to name a few. The CIPS designation was the first designation I achieved, it just was logical and very desirable for me to do.
