House Talk with Silvia Dukes

Making a Difference one Blog Post at a Time

As a blogger, whether your are fairly new or have been doing this for a while, have you ever asked yourself who is reading what you are producing?

At this month's meeting of the Hernando Beach Property Association - my neighborhood and the area I love to work and play in - I was approached by a lady who I hadn't met before. She introduced herself, saying she really wanted to meet me.

A little surprised, I asked why? Well, it turns out, when she was looking to move to the Hernando Beach area, she would frequently read my Hernando Beach neighborhood blog posts. Her statement was, well I learned so much about Hernando Beach, the area, the people, and the market, it felt like I was coming home when I finally closed.

Needless to say, she made my day (or evening) that night!  You just never know who will read your posts but sometimes you will find out many months later!

In this instance, the only thing that could have made this better would have been if I had also been her Hernando Beach Realtor assisting her in finding her new waterfront home but alas, that is life!

I console myself in the satisfaction of knowing that she enjoyed the information she obtained through my posts and considered it valuable.

Hi Silvia- so good to see you here. And, I love this story because it shows us all that we have to keep blogging. You never know which post may make a difference.

Posted by Kathy Streib, Home Stager - Palm Beach County,FL -561-914-6224 (Room Service Home Staging) about 1 year ago

Interesting.  It goes to show that being knowledgeable about an area isn't enough for someone to want to use you as their agent.  It would have been valuable to ask her why she didn't use you when she moved.  It's awkward asking something like that but it's key to know so you can craft a message that not only informs but also converts.

Tim Maitski that is very true. In this case, the person came from out of state and had been working with someone already who was referred to her by family members before she started going online to research the area.

Joe Pryor thank you, sometimes the knowledge that your posts are reaching people is a good reward.

Dick Greenberg it was a referral from family to someone they had used before. I'm just glad that I was able to provide some value!

I love this story Silvia even though you didn't get to work with the lady. Blogging does work, just takes a long and steady approach. Other realtors® ask me why I continue writing so intense and long blogs on Brentwood. It's stories like this that keep me motivated. Thanks for inspiring.

Hi Sylvia - congrats for getting your name out as the Hernando Beach Property Association expert. Next time you see this woman--maybe invite her to coffee??--you can chat about which posts were most helpful, suggest that you're ready to help any of her friends or family,  etc. Plant the seed that you are the right Realtor to provide assistance.
