House Talk with Silvia Dukes

Florida Nature: Who's Looking at You?

Florida Nature:  Who's Looking at You?

Today I spent some time doing some yard work and as a reward, sat a while on the patio reading a new book.  My bird feeder is still getting filled every day and I enjoyed watching various birds come and go having a few seeds.

The birds were a little more cautious with me sitting just a few feet away but the temptation of an easy meal from the feeder was too strong to keep away.

I captured this Common Grackle as it was peeking at me while snacking on a sunflower seed!

The question is "who is watching whom?"

Silvia you must of been pretty close to the feeder to get a close-up shot like this, even if you use a zoom lens.

That's not exactly the friendliest expression I've seen on a bird.

Sheila Anderson that surprises me, grackles are pretty common around here.

Dagny Eason thanks, their eyes do stand out!

George Souto I was about 10-12 feet away. It took a while for the birds to accept my presence.

Chris Ann Cleland he as definitely watchful!

The Common Grackle and I have somethimg in common. We both like sunflower seeds. I made homemade granola over the weekend and of course added sunflower seeds too.
