The Annual Brooksville Raid Civil War Reenactment is a popular event that is attended by thousands of spectators every year.
Civil War reenactors come from all across the country to take place in a battle that originally took place in July of 1864 when Union soldiers raided a few farms and ranches in the area and were met by Confederate soldiers who defended the area.
Although the action on the battle field is the main event both days, there there is more to see and do.
Both soldier camps will be open for the public to witness authentic camp living of the day.
There are also artillery demonstrations, a Ladies Tea, and for those who like to shop, there are dozens of vendors or "sutlers" offering a large variety of Civil War era clothing, equipment, kitchen utensils, ladies' dresses and fineries, uniforms, and generally everything from buttons to spittoons.
This is also where you can observe a curious mix of modern conveniences with the reenactors efforts to bring an authentic depiction of civil war era back to life - it's hard to avoid those ATM machines!
Getting hungry? A great variety of food is also available.
Bring your own chairs and blankets and listen to music by the "7 lbs of Bacon Mess Band". Chairs are also available for rent but usually they are gone quickly.
On Saturday, the battle will begin at 2:30 pm; on Sunday, it begin at 2 pm.
The annual Brooksville Raid reenactment is both entertaining and educational and always a lot of fun.
The weather in January can be a little unpredictable so it's best to dress in layers. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven. You can bring water and snacks but alcoholic beverages will not be allowed.
Dogs are to be kept on a leash at all times.
Bring your cameras and maybe even binoculars to watch the action!
