Hernando County is located about an half hour drive north of Tampa. Florida wildlife includes a variety of snake species, the majority of them harmless to humans.  Even living along the water, we do get the occasional snake passing through our yards. 

I had just commented to my husband a few days ago that I hadn't really seen any snakes this year like we had in the previous years. 

Lo and behold, within a couple of days, this black racer showed up on our back patio.  I guess he was trying to make friends with this rope laying around. I tried to get a littly closer but he didn't like that and took off in the grass.

Last weekend was the 9th Annual Bowling Extravaganza organized by the Hernando County Sheriff's office to benefit Youth Education Services (Y.E.S.) 

For the third year in a row, members of the Spring Hill Rotary Club participated as one of the many teams in this non-competitive bowling fundraiser event.  After three years of "practice" - none of the team members bowl regularly and in fact, most bowl only once a year during this event - we did quite well!  Most of all, we had lots of fun! 

The Spring Hill Rotary Club meets for breakfast every Thursday at I-Hop on US 19.  Meetings begin at 7:45 AM.  Guests and new members are welcome.  If you like more information about the club and our activities in the community, please call me!

Whether you are a car enthusiast or just looking for something to do on a Thursday evening, this car show will fit the bill.

Every Thursday beginning at 5:00 PM they start rolling in:  Antique cars, original or modified, muscle cars, hot rods, of all sorts of makes and models!  Carefully restored cars sit side-by-side with radically altered vehicles or even an unique one-of-a kind specimen.

Car clubs like the English Car Club, the Spring Hill Corvette Club, or the Spring Hill Car Club cruise in.  Many car owners as well as spectators are regulars contributing for a familiar and friendly atmosphere.

Chic-Fil-et sponsors the show and donating the one and only trophy "managers choice".  Otherwise, the show is fairly unregulated, there are no entry fees, no competition (at least not officially) and no pressure --- just plain ol' fun with cars. 

When:  Every Thursday, 5 PM until about 8 PM

Where: US 50, Spring Hill, Florida, Chic-Fil-et parking lot and adjacent parking lots of bank and shopping plaza.

Florida is not only known for beaches and sunshine but also for some really big bugs!  Well, this one is actually a grasshopper and home grown for that matter as it's been feasting on the plants in my very own yard all its life.  I just figure, I deserved I a great photo for this hospitality. 

This guy actually started out with hundreds of its brothers as tiny little specks of something clinging to some Muhly grass back in the Spring.  You might guess, I can't kill nothing and it didn't seem to hurt the grass, so I kept watching as these things started growing into small grasshoppers.  As they did so, their numbers decreased considerably. Still, at one point, some of my lilies looked a bit sad because they were literally eaten up by these critters. 

By time, this one reached about three inches, there were only a handful of them left around so I thought I'd better get hopping myself with the camera!  And of course, I had to look him up and found an quite interesting article and discovered its name "Eastern Lubber Grasshopper".  I just think it's quite beautiful.
